Frequently Asked Questions

We know you’ll have lots of questions about the role so we’ve answered some of the most common ones here!

What does a typical day look like?

A typical day for a Deputy Manager in the ICP focuses on supporting the Inclusion Centre Manager in overseeing daily operations, with a primary emphasis on managing resets and removals from class. They lead on de-escalating challenging behaviour and helping students regulate emotions to re-engage with learning. The Deputy Manager coordinates staff transitions, maintains a calm and structured environment, and ensures smooth curriculum delivery. While not a direct line manager, they provide day-to-day support to mentors and step in with parent liaison or safeguarding matters when needed. They also contribute to impact reporting, exclusion prevention, and work closely with school staff to ensure consistent support for students.

How is success measured?

Success in the role is measured through key student outcomes: a reduction in permanent exclusions, behaviour points, and fixed-term exclusions; improved attendance; and increased re-engagement in education. All of these metrics are tracked and monitored through Think for the Future’s integrated platform, Purple, allowing for clear visibility of impact and progress over time.

How many students per centre and what age are they?

We maintain a 1:5 staff-to-student ratio in all our centres. For example, a centre with three staff members will accommodate up to 15 students, while a centre with five staff members can support a maximum of 25 students. Our provisions are located within secondary schools, where young people are divided into two classes: KS3 and KS4.

How are students selected?

We work closely with the school to identify students who will benefit most from our provision. The school selects students based on specific criteria, such as being at high risk of permanent exclusion, displaying frequent challenging behaviour, showing significant disengagement with education, or currently accessing off-site alternative provision.

Who delivers the curriculum?

The academic curriculum is taught by qualified teachers from the partner school, ensuring consistency and high-quality education. This is fully supported by the Inclusion Centre team, who work closely with students to achieve strong learning outcomes. In addition, the centre team deliver sessions from our comprehensive Social and Emotional Resilience curriculum, helping students develop essential life skills alongside their academic studies.

Testimonials

Working in a TFTF Inclusion Centre is like coming to work with your family. You get to develop strong relationships with your team and the most challenging of young people, and in the process, create and educational space that suits the learning needs of young people who would otherwise not manage in school. My role as Deputy Manager means I am generally very operational, spending most of my days supporting the Manager and Mentors, dealing with behaviour, helping in lessons and being a main contact for the school. My role requires me to be a real team player, as well as strategic, solution focused, creative and adaptive.

Ms Richardson

Inclusion Centre Deputy Manager

As a Deputy Manager, my main responsibility is to lead by example and be a positive role model for students. I help ensure the centre runs smoothly, supporting classrooms, managing social times to keep students engaged, and stepping up when the Centre Manager needs extra support. I also assist with admin and parent communications, and work closely with the inclusion mentor when required.
What I love most about this role is the balance, it allows me to show my serious side when keeping students focused and achieving their potential, while also sharing my fun, light-hearted side during social times.
The best thing about working for Think for the Future is the consistency and fairness across the company. What you put in you get out, whether that’s rewards or opportunities for progression. That’s always been true in every role I’ve had here.

Mr Jackson

Inclusion Centre Deputy Manager

As a Deputy Manager, my role involves managing KS4 behaviour, mentoring students, supporting the Centre Manager, and completing key reports. What I enjoy most is being front-facing, helping students engage and thrive in what can often be a challenging environment. Making school enjoyable again and supporting young people to achieve their goals is incredibly rewarding.
Think for the Future has helped me grow in confidence and supported me throughout my journey. After three years with the company, I’ve always felt encouraged to progress and develop further. For me, it’s genuinely one of the best companies I’ve worked for.
