Behaviour & Inclusion Mentor Careers
Role Overview
Our Behaviour & Inclusion Mentors work on one of our three provisions: Behaviour & Resilience Mentoring, Integrated Behaviour Hubs or Inclusion Centres. They provide support and mentoring for the pupils allocated to their provisions(s) to address issues that are preventing them from achieving their full potential. To achieve this, our Mentors utilise our in-house, tailored social and emotional resilience curriculum within both group sessions and one-to-one work, with the aim of reducing poor school behaviour, creating long term positive attitude changes and developing pupils’ life skills and aspirations. Our Behaviour & Inclusion Mentors work closely with their cohort of students as well with the team at Think for the Future and their school(s) to develop and tailor the Think for the Future programme within the setting, and ensure they are creating data driven impact for the pupils they’re working with. While previous experience in a similar role is not required, candidates with a background in engaging with young people – whether through teaching, sports coaching, youth work or residential care – are highly desirable.
Frequently Asked Questions
We know you’ll have lots of questions about the role so we’ve answered some of the most common ones here!
What does a typical day as a mentor look like?
Our mentors arrive at school by 8:00 a.m., allowing ample time to prepare for the day and greet students as they begin their morning. Group mentoring sessions typically start around 9:00 a.m., depending on the school’s schedule. During these sessions, students leave their regular curriculum classes and join you in the TFTF classroom for mentoring. Sessions run throughout the day in alignment with the school timetable, usually concluding around 3:00 p.m., though this may vary by school.
This schedule provides mentors with time at the end of the day to complete administrative tasks, finalise safeguarding documentation, and submit end-of-day reports. It also allows for a final check-in with school staff to ensure they have everything they need from TFTF before mentors depart at approximately 4:00 p.m.
What is the specific location of the role?
Mentors are required to travel up to 60 minutes from their home address to assigned school locations. Therefore, it is essential that applicants have access to their own reliable transport.
Please note: If you live within 60 minutes of your county border, some school placements may fall outside your county. However, you only need to apply for the role in the county where you currently reside. Our recruitment team will ensure your application is considered for schools within a 60-minute radius of your home address, regardless of county boundaries.
What schools will I be allocated to?
At TFTF, ensuring the best possible match between mentors and schools is a top priority. To achieve this, we invest significant time in getting to know our prospective mentors throughout the recruitment process, as well as during onboarding and induction training.
We take the same approach with the schools we partner with, gathering detailed insights to understand their needs and preferences. This allows us to align mentors with schools that complement their mentoring style and are conveniently located. Your school allocation will be confirmed before the completion of your induction training but all schools are located within a 60-minute drive of your home address.
How many schools will I work in?
Our mentors work in between 1 and 5 schools, depending on the type of provision each school has. This could be 1 school that has a 5 day provision, 5 schools that all have a 1 day provision or it could be a mixture of provision lengths. For example, school A on a Monday and Tuesday (2 day provision), School B on a Wednesday (1 day provision) and School C on a Thursday and Friday (another day provision). All mentors will work Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.
